Hallowell Help Wanted

Happy March Hurricanes!

The 2026 Hallowell Hurricane season is just around the corner! We have been very busy planning for another fun successful summer of friendships and memories made!

Fundraiser: Thanks to Bertus Tempelhoff, we are officially a 501(c)(3)! With our shiny new non-profit status, we are able to get sponsorships. We are looking for a volunteer to establish relationships with businesses in the community that are mutually beneficial. This person will be joining Claudia Aranda, who organizes all our tasty restaurant fundraisers. This will fulfill all your family’s points for the season.

Tax Preparer: We are looking for someone to file our taxes as a 501(c)(3). This will fulfill all your family’s points for the season.

Officials: We are always looking for families that are trained to be officials. If you get certified to be an official, your family fee will be waived and working the meets will fulfill your family’s points requirement. See MCSL Officials Certification for certification information. If you are certified, you can check your certification status as well. Please email Dmitriy BItyutskiy at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Automation Table (A Meets/B Meets): We are looking for volunteers to train at the automation table this year. This is a TWO part job and we are looking for volunteers to do either or both.

  • One part of this job entails learning how to enter times and run meet results on the computer (under the pavilion and in the shade). This is Elisa Zeigler’s last year (congratulations to Senior Abby!) This is a job that is done atthe swim meets.
  • The other part of this job is done earlier in the week at home. It involves getting the swim line up from the coaches and then setting up the meet on the computer and printing out the heat sheets and lane sheets to be used at the swim meet. Lindsay Cooper has done it for years and would love to venture into other roles.

Training to help/run automation will fulfill half of your family’s points requirement. Please email Lindsay Cooper at [email protected] if you are interested.

Grill Team (B Meets): We are looking for someone to be in charge of the grill for B home meets (Wednesday afternoons) and the B Relay Carnival (usually a Sunday). This will fulfill all of your family points requirements. The dates for our B home meets are June 17, July 8th, July 12th (B Relay Carnival), and July 15th (Senior Night).

Hospitality (A Meets/B Meets): We are looking for a volunteer to help set up and run the hospitality table at our home meets. You will provide a beverage other than water (I’ve seen other pools serve fancy water with fruit in a pitcher, iced tea, juice, etc.). Other donations will be provided by preteam volunteers. Doing either A or B meets is 9 points and doing both is 18 points. This would be great for families who swim both A and B meets! The home A meets are on June 7th (Time Trials), June 20th, July 4th, and July 11th. The dates for our B home meets are June 17, July 8th, July 12th (B Relay Carnival), and July 15th (Senior Night).
