Team History

The Hallowell Hurricanes Swim Team began as a swim club to give the youth of Hallowell the opportunity to take part in a fun and worthwhile summer activity. Through the efforts of Marsha Criscio, the team started out with about 30 swimmers who met twice a week to practice. The team also participated in several "B" meets with other pools.

With the help of Montgomery County Swim League (MCSL) board member Frank Negro and Hallowell board member Marianne Murphy, local Hallowell residents Criscio and Keith Tetter rallied enough support from the community to petition the league to join the MCSL. The league accepted Hallowell's petition and, in the summer of 1992, Hallowell started its first season in Division M.

From 1994 until a tough loss to Rockville in 2000, the growing Hurricanes team was unbeaten, moving up the league to Division "B". In the 2001 season, Hallowell made its way to Division A. After four years of fierce competition, the Hurricanes successfully won Division A in 2004. The Hurricanes remained in Division A until 2008, when they competed in Division B and captured the Division Championship with an undefeated dual meet record and 1st place in Divisionals.

In 2022, the Hurricanes competed in and swept through Division H. After finishing the season 5-0 and winning the Relay Carnival and Divisionals, the team was promoted to Division D for the 2023 season.  The team had another undefeated season and were the D Division champs last year.  We're looking forward to another fun and competitive season this summer.
